Vertical Drop Awnings at prestigious Hampshire Cafe by alfresco365

Q. How will a Cafe or Restaurant maximise the profitability of an outside covered deck area. Ans. Enclose the space with retractable and discreet translucent vertical drop awnings.

Following the successful installation of a Markilux 110 pergola awning to the deck of the Mary Rose Museum Cafe as their Rain and Shade Solution our customer wished to discuss the possibility of fitting retractable sides to enhance the alfresco dining experience . The idea being to extend the use of the Cafe Deck well into the Autumn and early Spring .

Gibus ” The Sun Factory – Italy” manufacture a wide range of products , part of the range being the 11 & 13 QU drop awnings . These vertical drop awnings have square profiles, remote control operation and amongst the range of fabric options includes Cristal 500 see through PVC. Gibus QU Vertical Drop awnings are specifically designed to enclose products in the Mediterranea line and with adaption of the existing Markilux structure over the Cafe deck an ideal product to complete the project.

The round posts supporting the canopy were replaced with square posts , the square section drop awning side guides fitted to the new posts. The new system is controlled through Somfy remote control motors with groups of awnings paired to switches to facilitate quick operation.

The vertical drop awnings are extremely wind resistant , particularly as the design has a ZIP system so there is no gap between the fabric and the side guides . This means that no wind will get inside the controlled air space. Wind resistance has been tested to CLASS 3 , (110 N/m2 )or Beaufort 6 ( strong breeze ) , maximum 49 km/hour.
