Garden Shade options | Shade Sail or Awning ?

We all love a South facing home, but with ever increasing temperatures, and relentless sun a Garden shade is becoming an absolute necessity. What is the best option – a retractable awning, a shade sail, a parasol or even a bespoke structure. Not forgetting the possibility of rain and drizzle which is always just around the corner. The first issue is the South facing kitchen, so many of us now have wide folding doors, the architects favourite – why does the architect never mention the blazing sun during the design phase? For a very practical shade solution an electric retractable arm awning is a great choice. Fully extend the awning on very hot days, partially extend to give a bit of shade in the room even if its just to be able to see your laptop screen. Garden shade at the touch of a button. At a 14 degree angle the markilux 990 awning will also protect you from light rain showers.

Kitchen terrace sorted. Now let us consider the main terrace, an area for alfresco dining and chilling on those new garden sofas. Here we have designed a Hypar tensile sail made to measure to fit the architecture of the building. Using Serge Ferrari Soltis Proof 502 (see swatch here) we have created a 3d sail which will provide all the garden shade needed plus a perfect defence against any quantity of rain. Polished 316 marine grade stainless steel posts and fittings. Sail fabricated by Kemp Sails, designed and installed by Alfresco365.

A Garden shade sail is a great addition to any terrace or decking area and here we have a 4 post sail in Serge Ferrari Soltis 86 horizon mesh fabric in anthracite (see swatch here). Designed as a flat sail for shading only, the Soltis 86 mesh fabric allows the rain water to drift though preventing any pooling. Bring on the sun, great UV protection and super style.
